Consultation to commence on updated aspects of Mid Devon Local Plan Review
March 5, 2018

The Local Plan for Mid Devon moves a step forward towards examination hearings later this year, with public consultation about to commence on a Sustainability Appraisal.

Comments are being invited on this technical work which has been updated following an independent review by consultants.

The consultation will take place between 28 February and 11 April 2018.

Councillor Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, said: “Mid Devon needs an up to date Local Plan that will guide the development of new homes, jobs and infrastructure to the right places across the district, while helping to protect our valued countryside from speculative unplanned development. The outcome of this review is good news since it independently confirms the sustainability appraisal work to be proportionate and appropriate to meet legal requirements. We can now go out and consult on the further work undertaken and send this, together with all comments received, to the Inspector so that the examination process can be progressed without further delay. We would like to welcome comments on the amendments that have added greater clarity to the Sustainability Appraisal that sits behind the Local Plan Review”.

The schedule of amendments and related documents are available on the Council’s website at, and at the Council’s Phoenix House offices and public libraries in Mid Devon.

Comments can be made in writing (by post to Forward Planning Services, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, Devon EX16 6PP or by email to and must be received on or before 11 April 2018 (midnight).

Planning officers will be available at Mid Devon District Council, Phoenix House in Tiverton during the consultation at the following times to answer queries on the schedule of amendments made to the Sustainability Appraisal Update Report:

· Thursday 15th March 10am – 1pm

· Monday 19th March 10am – 1pm

· Wednesday 28th March 1pm – 4pm
